I am deeply compelled to use my first blog post as a tribute to the endless gratitude for all the guidance I have received to get to where I am today. Without the challenges, without the influences, without the experiences I’ve had, I could not be in this place to do what I am setting out to do.
So! This post will be my first of many as I venture into the story of Just A Girl, doing a bunch of fun stuff!!! The first testing adventure for our story was a cookie exploration and testing weekend. I decided to bake up some of the most common and favorite cookies: chocolate chip, oatmeal-raisin-chocolate chip, butterscotch shortbread and peanut-butter, about right?
This first test was to see how well each cookies fares over the course of a couple days to account for shipping time. Well, during the baking of these cookies, I instantly fell in love with the shortbread cookies! I was able to get creative and Just A Girl them by cutting out heart shaped cookies and stamping KKC on then added little dot embellishments. They turned out super cute so we had a strong leader early on in the competition.
Next, I wanted to make my signature chocolate chip but wanted to try something different. I decided to burn the butter because I had watched a professional baker smoked the melted butter she put in her recipe, thought I’d try something different for fun and experimental. Didn’t seem to matter, we couldn’t taste a difference. Although, the consistency was different and they became more brittle once cooled.
Which brings me to the other cookies, the oatneak-raisin-chocolate chip and peanut-butter. Both cookies turned out delicious so the test shifted to how well they would store over a couple days of storage. Putting the cookies in packaging, I waited to try a bite the next day.
The oatmeal fell apart pretty quickly and the chocolate chip were dry and crunchy. Not so tasty. The shortbread were delicious and actually tasted better than the day before? Then the next day came around and the same thing happened. The oatmeal had become crumbs and the chocolate chip had gotten hard. Interestingly, the shortbread was, once again, buttery delicious!
After the third day of the shortbread hearts tasting delicious, I decided to make shortbread cookies as Just A Girls’ cookie for a cause. You will be delighted when you get one, they taste buttery and crunchy and melt in your mouth. Yum!!! Today is June 22, 2019, and I am going to bake up more of the same recipe I did last weekend and try some new recipes to see which ones perform the best. Off to get baking! Till next time…
